For the first time in WAFCON history, a married couple featured in the same Women’s Africa Cup of Nations match.

South Africa’s Robyn Moodaly and her wife, Gabriela Salgado, both featured against Tanzania in Banyana Banyana’s opening match of the 2026 WAFCON.

This has sparked off controversies and attracted diverse comments across the African Continent and beyond.

On the United Africa Facebook group vast majority of commentator spoke out against this Anti-African Culture, describing it as strange and devilish.

Tanzania defeated South Africa by 2-1 and some jockingly attributed South Africa defeat to the presence of the Lesbian couple.
