Guyana 🇬🇾 a country in South America, the people (Black) are of African Ancestry specifically Senegal. 🇸🇳
Guyana is a diverse country on the mainland of South America often also considered part of the Caribbean Community.
Guyana is often referred to as an African country due to its large population of decedents from African countries.
Afro-Guyanese people are generally descendant of Africa brought to Guyana from the coast of West Africa to work on sugar plantations during the era of the Atlantic Slàve Trade. The date of the first arrival of enslàved Africans in Guyana is not known, but it is believed the first group were brought by Dutch settlers who migrated from Tobago from as early as the mid-seventeenth century.
Majority of the population of Guyana is of African (29.2 per cent), mixed heritage (19.9 per cent) and East Indian (39.9 per cent) descent (2012 Census), with Indo-Guyanese being the dominant group.
The rest of the population is of European, Chinese or indigenous origin.
Guyana is the only country in South America with English as the official language. Guyana gained independence in 1966. Although English is the official language, most Guyanese have Guyanese Creole as a first language.

Each of the seven continents of the world has diverse natural resources. Africa has the richest concentration of natural resources such as oil, copper, diamonds, bauxite, lithium, gold, hardwood forests, and tropical fruits. It is estimated that 30% of the earth’s mineral resources are found in the African continent. Additionally, Africa has the world’s biggest precious metal reserves on earth. Despite the wealth of natural resources, Africa still lags behind in development due to corruption and resource mismanagement.
Oil
It is estimated that 12% of the oil produced in the world comes from Africa. The oil was formed over a period of more than a million years when fossils decomposed. The countries that lead in oil production in Africa are Nigeria, Libya, Angola, Algeria, and Egypt. These nations accounted for more than 8.7 million barrels of all the oil produced daily in 2014. Nigeria and Libya are ranked among the top ten countries with the largest oil reserves in the world at 48 billion barrels for Libya and 37 billion barrels for Nigeria. Most of the oil produced in Africa is exported to Europe and the United States where it is refined and consumed.
Precious Metals
Africa has the richest reserves of precious metals such as gold, cobalt, and platinum. These metal reserves are worth billions of dollars. The continent is home to the leading producer of the highly priced metal – gold. Gold is highly sought after in the jewelry industry as well as in the financial markets where it is used as an alternative investment option. South Africa is Africa’s top gold producing nation.
Other African countries that lead in the production of gold include Benin, Morocco, and the Gambia. Cobalt is another precious metal produced mainly in the continent. The commodity is essential in the production of electric cars. Approximately two-thirds of the cobalt in the world are produced in the DRC. Platinum is one of the rarest metals, and it has its largest reserves in South Africa. Platinum is used in making jewelry, electronics, and medical equipment.
Timber
Timber is an essential resource in the construction industry and furniture making. Most African countries are endowed with vast natural forests that provide timber. Ten nations belong to the International Tropical Timber Organization. They include Cameroon, Gabon, Togo, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, DRC, and Ghana. These countries are some of the leading timber producers in the world. Most of the timber produced in Africa is exported to China, England, France, and the United States.
Management Of Africa’s Natural Resources
Unlike the other six continents, Africa has a wealth of precious natural resources. Most of these commodities are highly sought after throughout the world. Despite all the commodities naturally occurring in the continent, most nations of Africa derive little benefits from the resources. High levels ofJ corruption, lack of policies on wealth management,J poor resource allocation, exploitation, and political instability are some of the factors that affect the continent. These problems need to be addressed to enable African nations to benefit from the abundant resources in their hands.
“With strong and visionary leadership, coupled with creative Resource Management, Africa should be clearly the Richest Continent under the Sun” – The African Time Editorial insertion

South African goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, has explained why he couldn’t save any penalty during his side’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, Semi-Final game against Nigeria’s Super Eagles earlier this month.
Williams was the hero for Bafana Bafana in their shootout win against Cape Verde in the AFCON Quarterfinals.
However, Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper was unable to save any of the spot kicks he faced during the semifinal clash with Nigeria.
The Super Eagles beat South Africa 4-2 in the shootout to progress to the final, where they eventually lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast.
However, after some weeks following the conclusion of the AFCON tournament, Williams has now revealed that he tried to get into the heads of some of the Super Eagles spot-kick takers, but his plan failed.
“Obviously, it is either you are going one of three sides, it’s either down the middle or left or right. Now they don’t want us to talk to the players anymore. I try to push the limits, so I go up to them and try to tell them where they are going so that at least I have cut out one side.
“They started studying me as well; you know, four out of five penalties went down the middle, so now I need to come up with better ideas,” the 32-year-old told CBS Sports Golazo.
Williams won the Golden Glove Award at the AFCON 2023 tournament
